Info- and FAQ sessions: Work stipends for Non-German literature 2024

In 2024, the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion will once again be offering working stipends for Non-German literature.

In cooperation with the cultural administration, schreiben&lebenPLUS invites you to an info session on this stipends. Representatives of the funding programmes will provide an overview of the most important information on how to apply. An additional FAQ session will be held a few weeks later, where any unanswered questions can be clarified in direct dialogue with representatives of the cultural administration.

This spring, the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe is once again offering work stipends for Non-German literature.

In cooperation with the Senate, schreiben & leben invites you to an info session about these stipends. Representatives of the funding programme give an overview of the most important information for the application process. A few weeks after that, an additional FAQ sessions will take place, in which all open questions can be clarified in direct conversation with the representatives of the programme.

What: Multilingual Advisement Day
Target group: Authors and translators
When: 04.06.2021 (2.00-3.30 pm)
How: Group advisement sessions via Zoom-Video-Conference
Available languages: English, French, Spanish
Free of charge upon registration

The advisement consists of two parts. It begins with a general Q&A session in English before the participants are distributed among breakout rooms dedicated to more specific questions. Breakout rooms are available either in English, French or Spanish. Please note that the Q&A session is also open for writers from other language areas than those mentioned above.

For the first time, the Berlin Senate will award research stipends in the field of literature in non-German language. The application deadline is 6:00 p.m. on 15.06.2021. The research stipends are intended to promote the diversity and quality of literary works produced in Berlin by supporting new ideas and approaches. The target group are authors of literature (fiction, prose, poetry and books for children and young adults, no drama) who write in a language other than German, and translators who translate literature (fiction, prose, poetry and books for children and young adults, no drama) from German into another language. The authors and translators should have already proven themselves through publications. The research stipends are endowed with 8.000 € each and will be paid in two instalments in November and December 2021. The application must be submitted online. Available languages: English, French, Polish, Russian, Spanish
The general Q&A at the beginning of each session is held in English and open also for writers from other language areas as those offerend in the break-out rooms.
Free of charge upon registration

For the fifth time, the Berlin Senate will grant a Work Stipend for Berlin-based authors that write in languages other than German. The application deadline ends on May 11th at 6 pm and the grant refers to the year 2022. The work stipends available under this programme are awarded to support the artistic development of professional authors. Stipends are available for work processes of a limited duration and for work on ongoing projects that will either be continued or completed during the funding period. Stipends are awarded on the basis of the quality of work, potential for development and continuity. The purpose of the scholarship is also to enrich Berlin’s literary scene through the promotion and support of innovative texts and authors. Ten stipends are available for a period of usually twelve months. Each stipend is worth 24.000 €, which will probably be paid in twelve monthly instalments of 2.000 € each.
