Kreativ Kultur Berlin: Orientierung in der Förderlandschaft

Category: General Kreativ Kultur Berlin: Orientierung in der Förderlandschaft

23. September 2021

Artist Training DIGITAL BASICS (INTRO Hamburg) presents:

WORKSHOP: How to Be Part-time Freelancer

23 September 2021, 3 - 6 pm

With: Sebastian Hoffmann for Touring Artists

Working as a non-EU artist in Germany: What you need to know regarding work status, residence permits, social security, and taxation?

Artists' careers tend to be multidimensional and multi-status: for one project, an artist works self-employed/freelance, for another project, as an employee. Many artists also have side jobs that aren't related to their artistic practice. In the workshop, you'll get an overview on the administrative side of working as an artist in Germany: what is the difference between self-employment/freelancing and employment? What are the implications of conducting multiple activities for social security (health insurance and insurance through the Künstlersozialkasse) and taxation? Which type of residence permit allows which activity? The workshop will be conducted in English and led by Sebastian Hoffmann, consultant at touring artists (www.touring-artists.info), the German mobility information point for international artists. touring artists is a joint project by the International Association of Art (IGBK), the International Theatre Institute (ITI) and the German Dance Association (Dachverband Tanz), supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM).

Bio: Sebastian Hoffmann
Sebastian Hoffmann supervises the "touring artists" help desk service for internationally mobile artists. In the music scene of Berlin, he is part of the Musicboard Berlin jury, stages concerts as part of the collective Fourtrack on Stage and brings to life the Down by the River Festival as one of the programmers and organisers. From 2012 to 2016, he was an agent at Paper & Iron Booking.
The Workshop will be held in English and is free of charge.
